Winnemucca

Well, John and I had a blast on Saturday hawking with some falconers in Winnemucca. We met Doug and his two Harris Hawks and his friend Jim. Even though it was cold, windy as hell and John’s bird shit in my tennis shoe, we had fun. We all came up empty handed but the wind was terrible. Pics and a video will be posted soon. We are off to visit another falconer and her apprentice on Saturday.

My bird is crazy

Ok, Today my hawk nearly killed herself while trying to get a squirrel under some rocks. Full stoop right into the rocks!! Crazy bird. Then a few minutes later she went after a marmit. For those of you who dont know what a marmit is, imagine a 12lb beaver or woodchuck. Mean little bastards.

John’s bird Sendero, a captive bred female Harris Hawk tagged a nice Jack Rabbit the other day. I am working on getting John a little camera to take pictures for us. Grats John!!!

Well, I got a great slip on a Jack and she missed! I hope to go to Winnemucca this weekend to see some other Nevada falconers and fly Jazz in their area. Should be fun!

Wet….

Well I got in two nice slips even though it was muddy as hell from the rain. At least the rain stopped long enough for me to get out, the sun even came out. Jazz smashed into a brush with a huge jack in it, but the brush was too thick for her to get a foot on it. She chased another up a hill and missed that one too. Maybe Saturday!!
